Many congratulations to Scott McGuire on completing his first solo today - “It’s a lot quieter, isn’t it?” was his first comment on returning to earth.. Apparently he may be the first person to solo from runway 09. We’d ended up at this little visited corner of the airfield after the day started with a fresh easterly. After Scott’s triumph we tired of 09’s attractions and transferred to the main runway, Sometime after lunch someone flicked the thermal switch to “on” and pretty much everyone enjoyed a soaring flight – at times it was a struggle to get down.
