Sunday 15th April - A Cracker
Clear skies and sub-zero temperatures overnight were the curtain raiser to an excellent day. Doug Gardner was up at 7.30am rigging the LS3 for Phil Guthrie - I've got to get myself a syndicate partner like that. By 10.00 there was a very large grid of gliders and pilots waiting for the conditions to start.
Phil (brave bloke) went downwind to Dorchester and had a long into wind struggle to get back. Mike Weston and Chris Gough set off for Snowdon in the Duo and managed to get as far as Oswestry, overtaking yours truly en-route to Shrewsbury. Robin and Alex Maz headed towards the Mynd in the DG500. Conditions up north got very good with 6 knot climbs to 5,000', but I think Alex just might have regretted wearing only a tee-shirt - it was absolutely freezing at altitude. Tony Parker romped round Weston Chimney - Telford in the Ventus, landing with a block of ice in his tail. Jon Huband also had problems with icing in a certain tube in his Ventus, but its best not to go into detail. There were many other runners and riders and I think a good day was had by all.
