Sunday 30th January

Robin Birch and I did our best to keep everyone safely on the ground today. Between us we killed a winch and grounded two of the three remaining two-seaters. But we couldn't find anything wrong with the last K13 and were soon enjoying some splendid launches from newly minted winch driver Sam Lazenby (how many 16 year olds get to drive something with a 7l V8 engine, with such aplomb?). After an unpromising start the day got better and better, and there was soaring to be had in the afternoon sunshine - I even saw the vario hit three up. Quote of the day goes to UWE student Matt after he'd had his first soaring flight "So, is that how you find a thermal - just sort of wander around until you blunder into one? " Yup, that's about it.
