UWE Freshers Fair 2010

On Friday a team of CGC volunteers spent a fun day manning (and 'womanning') a stand on behalf of the University of West England Gliding Club (UWEGC) at their freshers' fair (now re-branded as an Open Day). The day was a great success with almost 200 students expressing an interest and leaving their contact details. One of the temporarily unserviceable PW6s was dragged down and rigged inside the exhibition hall, its presence causing vast interest. "How the hell did they get that thing in here?" was heard often. As we rigged it, various officious types in suits and/or hi-viz tabards looked nervously on and muttered grumpily about risk assessments and weight and suspended floors and fire exits ... but were cheerfully and successfully ignored.

Marketing star of the day was undoubtedly Helena Gardner, but a big thanks also to Tom Gardner, Alex Mazzolini, Jeremy Liber and Mike Weston who gave up a whole day to make this such a success.

For those that wince at the thought of 200 students descending upon Aston Down ... fear not! Experience has shown that the number of students that actually follow through to actually fly is a small percentage and manageable.
